A long time coming

Postby 30sumthin » Sun Aug 30, 2009 5:02 pm

Hello, my name is 30sumthin I am diagnosed bipolar as well as having PTSD symptoms. I've known about manic depression for 10 years have been on many meds but only recently discovered that some degree of recovery comes with acceptance. ie I've fought the diagnosis thinking I could make it go away for that long.
I am glad to find a place to connect with other "Bipolarians" ( :-) I liked that) and hope to see you around.
Thanks and all the best to you!

Its not uncommon to fight the bp dx. I fought it for at least 8 years after my dx in 1978. Just as diabetes is to some, bipolar is to us. Both affect the brain indirectly or directly respectively. Acceptance does alleviate stress or worry that would otherwise exacerbate bipolar illness. I think if you came in to chat in harbor-of-refuge as Mikey pointed out, you would find many others who have been down a similar path as yourself. We aren't there to feel sorry for ourselves or dwell on our illness. In fact, I use my time in the chat as therapy for my own wellbeing. I don't have a talk therapist as when I was dxd, they were not on the scene like nowdays.
